EMDR Intensives

What is an EMDR intensive?

EMDR intensives are essentially longer EMDR sessions that allow for more processing and less "down time" between reprocessing sessions. The schedule for an intensive is customized to each individual client, but typically involves two to three hours of EMDR in the morning and then two to three hours of EMDR in the afternoon, with a break for lunch, rest, and resource-building in between. If a full day does not feel right for you, I am happy to discuss alternative schedules, including half-days or more time for rest and resourcing.

What can we accomplish?

One day of intensive can equal several months of hour-long therapy sessions. Typically, in one day of intensive we can address a specific "big T" traumatic experience (old or recent) or multiple "small T" experiences. However, this is an extremely dynamic and individualized process, so each person's experience will be different.

Is an intensive right for me?

Intensives offer many benefits. This format might be right for you if:

  • Your schedule does not allow for weekly therapy visits

  • You feel ready to tackle a large chunk of therapeutic work without a lot of downtime between sessions

  • You are already working with a trusted provider and just need EMDR to work through a specific experience

  • You feel committed to making a lot of progress in your therapeutic journey!

However, intensives are not for everyone. This format may not be for you if:

  • You have significant safety concerns and do not already have a trusted therapist

  • You do not have specific events or experiences that need attention

If you have questions about whether an intensive might be right for you, please contact me for a consultation! I am always happy to answer questions.

How much does an intensive cost?

A full day of intensive costs $1200. This includes:

  • An assessment to identify symptoms, triggers, and memories that we will target in our work together

  • Up to 6 hours of EMDR therapy

  • Time for reflection, encouragement, building resources, and grounding

  • Lunch!

  • Recommendations for healthy coping skills, self-care activities, and ongoing work

If you would like to explore options for customizing your intensive schedule, please reach out. I am happy to discuss options for customization and provide a quote that reflects any changes to the base schedule.

Through partnership with a trusted colleague, I am also able to offer an add-on session of reiki, massage, or somatic bodywork. These services can deepen the EMDR experience and access areas for healing that may not otherwise be accessible. Feel free to reach out to me for more information!

What else do I need to know?

Intensives take place at my office in the Willow Lawn area of Richmond, VA.

*In certain circumstances, I may consider a virtual intensive--feel free to ask!

Depending on my availability, it may be an option to continue therapy with me on a weekly or biweekly basis if you would like.

Some people might find after their first intensive that they want another day of intensive treatment. If this is the case for you, we will work together to make it happen!
